Where is Puerto Plata?

Puerto Plata is located on the North Coast of the island of the Dominican Republic, just west of Puerto Rico.

When is the best time to holiday in Puerto Plata?

The Dominican Republic essentially has only two main seasons – tropical (summer) and tropical cool (winter).

If you’re planning your trip to Puerto Plata in the summer then you must be prepared for a tropical climate which means hot and humid weather. Average temperature during the day is approximately 84 degrees Fahrenheit and humidity is about 80 percent. Although summer (May through October) is the rainy season in Puerto Plata, downpours do little to ease the heat. Both humidity and precipitation fall off in November and remain low through April; this "tropical-cool season" is characterized by pleasantly warm days and beautifully mild evenings.

How do I get to Puerto Plata?

You can get to the Dominican republic by air from anywhere in the world affordably and easily. The two major international airports are Santo Domingo’s Las Americas International Airport and Puerto Plata’s Gregorio Luperon International Airport.

What currency is used in Puerto Plata?

The currency in Puerto Plata is the Dominican Pesos. Perhaps insert a US$/Peso converter

Be cautious how much money you choose to exchange into Dominican pesos during your stay. Travelers are only allowed to exchange up to 30% of one's pesos for foreign currency upon departure. You will be given exchange receipts each time you change money during your stay, so keep them if you need to change back for dollars, pounds, etc.

What can I expect from the people & culture of Puerto Plata?

The North Coast of the Dominican Republic offers you an array of vacation and travel experiences. One of the best reasons for visiting is the friendliness of the locals, and discovering the unique and contagious Dominican approach to life. The laid back and relaxing atmosphere of the culture matches the enviable warm weather Puerto Plata enjoys year-round. You can also expect to experience the national music and dance of the island - merengue! An easy dance to learn, the merengue dance and music beckons you to happily dance away your nights at the area's bars and clubs.

For a memorable and richer travel experience, immerse yourself in the local culture. Talk one-on-one with the locals. Be friendly with your hotel staff, and seek information from them on what the locals do for entertainment. A smile always opens the door in Puerto Plata.
